University of Wisconsin-Platteville Increases Access for Education Majors with LRAPs

June 3, 2021

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, a public institution in the University of Wisconsin system, is partnering with Ardeo Education Solutions to offer loan repayment assistance programs (LRAPs) to incoming new freshmen elementary-middle level education majors starting in Fall 2021.

“At UW-Platteville, we are deeply committed to providing a high-quality education that is accessible to everyone,” said Chancellor Dennis J. Shields in the UW-Platteville press release. “This program is one more way that we can help eliminate barriers to higher education that so many families face and give more students access to the outstanding opportunities and programs our School of Education provides.

The loan repayment assistance program will help School of Education graduates repay their federal student, parent PLUS and private alternative loans if their income after graduation is below $48,000.

“Our graduates choose to major in education because of a strong desire to give back to their communities and to make an impact in their future students’ lives,” said Dr. Jen Collins, director of UW-Platteville’s School of Education. “We all know that we don’t adequately compensate teachers for the amazing work that they do. This is especially true in smaller, more rural communities, where salaries are typically lower than in larger suburban and urban districts. The LRAP is our way of telling our elementary-middle level education majors that you don’t have to choose between following your passions and paying your bills.”
